day 52

*sleeping in 'till 8. it wasn't so bad...everybody slept in.

*sleepily watched tyson lose to himself in his video game. i forget the name of it. but one dude had a blue circle on his head

*sleepy krysti, "we should go eat something."
"yeah, i agree."

...20 minutes later....

"we should go eat something."
"good idea!"

...40 minutes later....

"we should go eat something."
"mhmmm."

*5 sleepy kids piled in the car IN OUR PAJAMAS and rolled down the windows and SANG ALONG TO THE RADIO and went to TACO BELL and ordered FROZEN MARGARITAS and then sat in street and watched the neighbor kids SHOOT A CANON with water balloons, all at NOON. can summer get any better than this? i say not.

*new record: i wore pantyhose for 29 solid hours. when bran and i finally got home, i pulled on my dad's pj pants and ran out in the yard and kicked my legs around in ecstatic freedom.

day 51

*up at 3:30am. picked up our equally sleepy friends...off we go

*"what time are we supposed to be at the wedding?"
"noon."
"it's 10:30."
(awkward silence)
"whew, i knew i shoulda taken my time at that light back there..."

*sarah: "ugh. my hair."
me: "ugh. my face. i look so sleepy."
"i'll do your makeup if you flat iron my hair."
"deal."

*crawling around in a children's play gym in our skirts and heels. best 20 minutes ever? YES.

*meeting someone for the first time that would prove to be a fantastic and amazing friend...you know who you are

day 50

* TODAY IS DAY 50. i love celebrating milestones.

*today i was tired. mmm, if only i could just take a leetle nap...

*today i had the first watermelon of the summer. it was not a sweet one. i didn't finish my slice.

*today sissy walked over and poked me during soccer.
"HEATHER."
"wha?"
"WHY ARE YOUR EYES CLOSED?"
"i'm taking a leetle nap."
"oh, that's nice."
"can i go back to sleep?"
"no."
"why not?"
"BECAUSE THERE'S BALLS ROLLING PAST YOU. START KICKING THEM."

*today i bonked a soccer ball with my head. it was a great bonk. it looked real nice.

*today i forgot i had a hair clip in my hair. there is now a bump where it bonked.

buddy

he smelled bad.
he looked goofy and nerdy.
he had a large bobble-ish head.
worse of all...he was a he. and he weighed 100 pounds.
world, let me introduce to you my new puppy.

meet buddy.

see, he was supposed to replace my dearly beloved Fendi
.

anybody else see something wrong with this comparison?
my dad didn't, either.
he is very smart, and he is a dentist. dentists are sweet talkers and joyful drillers. and so naturally my dad used his cunning and manipulative 6th dentist sense and introduced me to my new "puppy" on my birthday.
i laughed.
"cute, dad."

he was serious. dentists are very solemn people, too.

and so we adopted buddy and he came to live at our house. i laid down harsh rules the moment he hopped in our car.
#1. buddy would not hop into our car without a kennel.
#2. i would not be held responsible for buddy.
#3. i would not be feeding, chasing, training, bathing, poop scooping, or baby talking to buddy.
#4. i do not like buddy.
#5. i have been sadly shorthanded in this dog thing.

"no refunds or returns," dad said. he was being serious again. dentists.

"i don't even like the name buddy," i whined to sissy the next time she stopped by. "it's like something you name your favorite doughnuts or perhaps a tractor. no decent dog should be named something with the word 'butt' in it."
"it's kinda catchy," she said optimistically. i was too busy pouting to appreciate optimistic-ness.
buddy ran over, and sissy commanded him to sit. he wagged his tail.
"SIT, BUDDY," she said fiercely.
"try tapping his rear," i suggested. she tried it. buddy ran away from us.
"still, sis, you should have more faith in him. buddy is a good dog."
"i know that. just let me whine a little. imagine, that clumsy, cross-eyed thing could have been a squirming lil big eyed puppy." i barked convincingly.
"yeah, you look cute," she said dryly. "i wonder if he could learn how to jump over rails..."
"it might neuter him on the high ones." i copied her dryness.
she 'tisk'ed at me and went after buddy with a treat. "buuuddy, buuuuuddy...."

an' it could have been a squirming, lil' big eyed puppy.

i have been scammed by a dentist.

note: for those of you who like to keep track of the time line of events, buddy came on day 21. now everything probably makes a lot more sense.

day 47

*me: can you believe we got all this rain? what happened to the sunshine we were relishing in?!
sabrina: i know...it's like we got got a teaser summer.

*rain in my hair and shoes and dripping in my pockets. it gave WAFCM a whole new experience...

*a big functioning umbrella. one i wish i had...

*CHEERIOS at six in the rainy morning

*it is indeed possible to hug six friends at once. it is also possible to huddle with six friends under one tiny umbrella

day 46

*today was one of those lucky days where you don't do your hair at all but it still turns out pretty. i don't know how. i don't know why. it must be magic.

*pretending my conditioning spray is pixie dust.

*pretending my hair looked pretty.

*pretending i'd only been waiting in the car for bran for the five promised minutes.

*waiting
fourty-five minutes in the parking lot. spent the time trying to solve my daily 365. this is all i could come up with.

day 45

day 44

*mom's back is better. sooo thankful...

*went SWIMMING. haha. i love summer.

*bran and i were obviously blessed with the unstoppable flow of insightful words. introducing his blog. i know for a fact it will make you smile.

*ruiz's word invention of the month...SCHMOOPER. definition: noun. sh-MOO-per. a dollop of whipped cream sprayed directly into the mouth. also applies to gogurt and cheese from a can. usually followed by a horrified squeal from a more concerned family member.

*cheese from a can. i love it. yes, i am sometimes a schmooper sneaker, when nobody's looking.

day 43

*homemade strawberry pancakes, dripping with hot syrup. instantly became number one on my culinary expertise list...mmm, so good.

*another rainy day...nothing like a soggy sunday morning to make you feel like curling up and reading an old historic novel.

*GLEE.

*put that extra blanket back on my bed for the third time this week. the weather is being finicky and can't seem to decide...or maybe i'm just being too sentimental about that blanket

*the minty green color painted on my walls. it feels like i'm sitting under a velvet boxwood bush
